KDLP Performing Arts
Korean Traditional Drumming, namely Samulnori (사물놀이) class is offered to 4th and 5th grade KDLP students. Students learn how to play four percussion instruments: Buk (북, small Korean drum), Janggu (장구, large Korean drum), Jing (징, large Korean gong), and Kwanggari (꽹과리, small Korean gong). Students perform several times a year for occasions such as at the Holiday program, Fall Festival, Multicultural Day, DLP Institute Day, and the 5th grade Culmination Ceremony.
Fan Dance performance: KDLP 4th and 5th grade students learn the traditional Korean fan dance. This dance is comprised of students using two large fans to create multiple shapes and movements. They learn fan dance during one semester and do performances several times a year.
Mask Dance performance: KDLP 4th and 5th grade students learn mask dance and perform several times a year. Students make their own masks.
KDLP Showcase: We have an annual KDLP Showcase for all students in grades Kinder through 5th grade. Students showcase their work such as writing, Korean calligraphy, art projects, and slideshows. Students sing and dance alongside Korean children’s songs. Parents and community members are invited to celebrate our students' hard work and their achievement throughout the school year.
Drama Performance: KDLP K-2nd grade students have various opportunities to learn and perform skits and plays throughout the year, such as “Wizard of OZ”, “Pushing Up the Sky”, “The Sun and the Moon (해와 달이 된 오누이)”, and Aesop’s Fables.
